Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit abstracts for presenting at the conference.  Abstracts will be due September 30, 2011 and should indicate if the author plans to submit a full paper, which will be due by December 31, 2011. Full papers will be considered for publication in one of two special issue journals:

The International Journal of Mass Emergencies and Disasters The American Society of Civil Engineers’ Natural Hazards Review

The Conference will address but is not solely limited to the following themes: 

  • Evacuation planning around nuclear power plants
  • National, state, regional & local evacuation policy
  • Evacuation issues facing the medical community and public health professionals
  • Evacuation for carless and vulnerable populations
  • Communications and human behavior in evacuations
  • Pedestrian evacuations
  • No-notice evacuations
  • Sheltering during evacuations
  • Business continuity issues in evacuation
  • Utilizing social media during evacuations
  • Issues surrounding university evacuations
  • Legal issues in evacuation planning
  • Evacuation modeling
  • Issues for first responders and voluntary organizations during evacuations
